Step 1: Preparing the Subfloor
- Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and level.
- Remove any existing flooring, carpet, or debris.
- Repair any cracks or uneven areas in the subfloor.
Step 2: Acclimatize the Wood
- Allow the wooden flooring to acclimate to the room's temperature and humidity for at least 72 hours before installation.
Step 3: Lay the Underlayment
- Roll out a suitable underlayment to provide moisture protection and sound insulation.
- Secure the underlayment properly, ensuring it's smooth and free from wrinkles.
Step 4: Plan the Layout
- Start the installation along the longest wall in the room.
- Leave a 1/2-inch expansion gap around the perimeter to accommodate for natural wood expansion.
Step 5: Install the First Row
- Place the first plank with the groove side facing the wall.
- Use spacers to maintain the expansion gap.
- Secure the plank using a pneumatic nailer, leaving nails about 6 to 8 inches apart.
Step 6: Continue Installation
- Connect subsequent planks by inserting the tongue into the groove at a slight angle.
- Use a tapping block and rubber mallet to ensure a tight fit between planks.
- Stagger the joints between rows for a natural look.
Step 7: Cutting and Fitting
- Measure and cut planks as needed to fit around corners, doorways, and obstacles.
- Use a jigsaw or circular saw for precision cuts.
Step 8: Finishing Touches
- Complete the installation, ensuring all planks are securely fastened.
- Remove spacers and install baseboards or molding to cover the expansion gap.
Step 9: Final Inspections
- Walk across the floor to ensure there are no squeaks or loose planks.
- Check for any visible gaps or imperfections and make necessary adjustments.
Step 10: Maintenance Tips
- Regularly sweep or vacuum the floor to prevent debris from scratching the surface.
- Use a damp mop with a recommended wood floor cleaner for routine cleaning.
- Avoid excess water as it can damage the wood.
